Diagrid & Dapr @ KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2024

Find the Diagrid team in Salt Lake City November 11-15! Join us for a Dapr workshop and find our booths at AppDeveloperCon and KubeCon + CloudNativeCon. Plus, we're hosting a graduation party and you're invited!

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon is fast approaching, along with all of the fun co-located events to this flagship CNCF conference. Read on to learn when and where to find us and to get on the list for some exclusive events!

Dapr Workshop

Diagrid is kicking off the week on Monday, November 11 with a Dapr lunch & learn workshop hosted by Diagrid customer success manager Fernando Rocha. He'll demonstrate how to use Dapr's APIs for pub/sub, state, and service invocation to build a distributed pizza store application. Come for the pizza, stay for the new skills. Save your seat now to get more details as we get closer to the event.

AppDeveloperCon

On Tuesday, November 12, we're sponsoring AppDeveloperCon, a full-day conference designed for developers at all levels who are involved in the architecture, design, and development of cloud native applications. The agenda is jam-packed with thought leadership and learning opportunities, including several Dapr and open source-focused sessions:

9:00 AM: Welcome and Opening Remarks

Mark Fussell, Diagrid CEO and Dapr co-creator, will kick things off!

9:10 AM: The Power of Apache Pulsar: Harnessing Dapr to Build High Scale Messaging at FICO

Hugo Smitter, platform architect at FICO, used Dapr to seamlessly and efficiently integrate with Apache Pulsar at scale. In this session, learn about the process and gain the skills you need to transform your event management and processing capabilities.

10:15 AM: Intro to the CNCF App Development WG

Mauricio “Salaboy” Salatino will do a 10-minute lightning talk to introduce the new App Development Working Group to the CNCF alongside Daniel Oh

11:50 AM: Building Real-World Applications with Dapr: A Startup Developer’s Journey

Startup expert and Whit Waldo will demonstrate how he leverages Dapr’s building blocks for cryptography, state management, pub/sub messaging, service discovery/invocation, actors, workflows, job scheduling and more in his complex full-stack application.

3:20 PM: Why Does Continuous Profiling Matter to Developers?

Finally, Mauricio will take the stage with Jonas Kunz from Elastic to show how you can combine traces and profiling data to understand how your applications perform and where the bottlenecks are.

Platform Engineering Day

2:05 PM: Harnessing Crossplane and Dapr for DevOps: FICO’s Platform Engineering Journey to Increase Velocity

Hugo Smitter returns to the stage to share his story using Dapr in concert with Crossplane to streamline devops workflows to increase deployment flexibility and velocity and how you can do the same.

Cloud Native Startup Fest

At the end of the day on Tuesday, you can hop over to Cloud Native Startup Fest to catch Mark Fussell on a panel: Startups with Open Source Projects: Can They Be Successful in the CNCF? And Should They Be? He’ll join various startup founders, project maintainers, and others in the thick of the struggle between commercialization and open source, between paying maintainers and appealing to the open source.

KubeCon Expo Hall: Booth R14

Definitely don't miss us at the main event: KubeCon + CloudNativeCon from November 13-15.

Drop by Booth R14 in the expo hall to meet developer advocate Marc Duiker, grab some swag, and get a demo of Diagrid Conductor, the easiest way to get started with Dapr on Kubernetes. Looking to automate operations, enforce security best practices, improve uptime, and elevate insights across all your Kubernetes clusters? There's an API for that.

Wednesday @ 12:10 PM: Dapr's Road Ahead: GenAI APIs, Distributed Scheduling at Scale and What it Means for Your Platform

Diagrid CTO and Dapr co-founder Yaron Schneider will cover the latest Dapr developments and the roadmap into 2025. Learn how Dapr is adding APIs to abstract the complexities of interacting with LLM models at scale and how Dapr can be used by platform teams to provide golden paths for interacting with underlying architecture.

Dapr 1.14 released this summer, adding much-requested Jobs API, streaming services, improved HTTP metrics filtering, and more. You can see them all, accompanied by demos by their creators in the release blog.

Wednesday @ 3:25 PM: Scale Job Triggering with a Distributed Scheduler

What challenges arise when scaling job scheduling to thousands or even millions of jobs? Artur Souza and Cassie Coyle from Diagrid's engineering team will demonstrate how Dapr's distributed Scheduler unblocks scalability of actors and workflows, while also enabling new capabilities like delayed pub/sub and the job API.

If you've ever struggled with the durability and scalability of Cron, the Dapr Jobs API and Scheduler services are for you. You can read about them in Cassie's recent blog.

Wednesday @ 5:25 PM: Taming Your Application's Environments

Mauricio Salatino from Diagrid and Marcos Lilljedahl from Dagger will take the stage on Wednesday to cover three techniques you can implement to level up your SDLC:

  • Modularizing and enhancing deliver pipelines to simplify complex environments with Crossplane and Dagger
  • Building consistent experiences around well-known interfaces with CloudEvents, Dapr, and OpenFeature to minimize runtime drift
  • Design with separation of concerns to enable fast feedback loops between development and operation teams with Argo CD and Knative

Open source projects are the foundation of what Diagrid stands for. You can read about our comprehensive culture built on open source in this blog by Artur Souza.

Get ready to party!

On Thursday, November 14, Diagrid is teaming up with our friends at Upbound to the celebrate the pending graduations of our respective CNCF projects: Dapr and Crossplane. We've rented out the Quarters Arcade Bar in downtown SLC, just a few minutes walk from the conference. Join us for an open bar, all the video games you can play, and networking opportunities with the minds behind and users of these two game-changing solutions. Get on the list.
